Lakhimpur had dominated national news coverage after eight people, including four farmers, were killed in a shooting incident on October 3.

The city will vote in the 4th phase of the elections for the state assembly within Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

The elections for the state assembly held in Lakhimpur Kheri have become a famous battle for the Union Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mishra Teni.

His son Ashish is accused of murder in connection with the deaths of four farmers in the protests in October.

The region’s farmers are reported to be unhappy with the controversial farm laws of the Centre.

Violence in Lakhimpur Kheri has added to the anger and discontent with the current BJP regime at the Centre and across the state.

They’ve been demanding stern actions for Ashish Mishra, whose SUV allegedly killed four farmers in October of last year.

They’ve even challenged the bail of Ashish Mishra before the Supreme Court.

Both the BJP and the SP have re-elected their candidates in their respective seats in the Lakhimpur City seat.

At present, all eight-seat in Lakhimpur are currently held by the BJP. The BJP’s Yogesh Verma, who took this seat during the 2017 elections, is now compared against Samajwadi’s Utkarsh Verma Madhur. Congress has chosen Ravi Shankar Trivedi.

In total, there are 59 constituencies for assembly located in nine districts in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, in the final phase elections.

The fourth phase, the polling scheduled for February 23rd, will determine what happens to 624 candidates from the 59 Assembly segments of districts like Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, etc. Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Banda and Fatehpur.

Voting for the three remaining stages of the 7-phase UP elections will be held on the 27th of February, March and 7.

The count of votes will be conducted on March 10.
