The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday, May 29, 2022, that the monkeypox virus has now been confirmed in 23 non-endemic countries.
There have been a total of 257 laboratory-confirmed and about 120 suspected cases.
In a statement, the global health body said that the sudden appearance of monkeypox at the same time in several countries where it doesn’t usually happen.
He suggests that the disease has been spreading without being noticed and that recent events have made it worse.

The health agency said, “The risk to public health could be high if this virus takes the chance to become a human pathogen and spreads to people who are more likely to get sick severely, like young children and people with weakened immune systems.”
The WHO said that as of May 26, 257 confirmed cases and 120 suspected cases had been reported from 23 member states where the virus is not usually found.
So far, no deaths have been reported. However, the agency also expects more cases to be reported.
It will increase more as surveillance grows in both countries where the disease is common and countries where it is not common.
