“Never Demanded Chief Minister’s Post”: Eknath Shinde
Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who last week led a successful coup against former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and assumed control of Maharashtra with the backing of the BJP, stressed that his rebellion was motivated by ideological differences with alliance partners in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Before a ceremonial test of the majority, the 58-year-old said in an exclusive interview with the media, “I didn’t make this choice to become Chief Minister.
“I never asked for the position of Chief Minister. It has to do with the Hindutva philosophy of Balasaheb (Thackeray). Party members felt strongly about the Maha Vikas Aghadi. MLAs were also irate. They were unable to do any development work because of coalition internal issues, “explained Mr. Shinde. He also said that by providing him the position of Chief Minister, the BJP showed its “large heart.”
“Everyone believed that the BJP would help us win the state’s election. Additionally, some were hoping that they would be appointed Chief Minister. Although we only had 50 MLAs supporting us, they nevertheless gave us the top position and had 115 MLAs, ” he said.
Devendra Fadnavis’ acceptance of the position of deputy chief minister after first stating that he would not serve in government was also clarified by Mr. Shinde.
“I talked to him, and he replied that it was his responsibility to obey party order since the party had assisted in his development from a lowly laborer to a towering leader, bestowing upon him the highest rank (of Chief Minister),” he claimed.
The Shinde camp defeated Team Thackerey on Sunday, winning a decisive victory for its candidate in the Speaker of the House race.
“With solid votes, we were successful in electing the Speaker today. There are 107 votes in favor and 166 against. The disparity is rather significant. By winning the first Speaker struggle, we have shown that this disparity will grow daily “said he.
Given the recent events in the state, the election for Assembly Speaker is quite important.
“I have been named the Shiv Sena legislative party’s leader by the assembly’s speaker. We have the lion’s share. The Uddhav Thackeray faction’s Ajay Choudhary and Sunil Prabhu do not have a majority. We sent a petition to the Speaker today. According to the law, the majority can only be chosen, “said he.
In the same interview, Mr. Shinde explained his choice to overturn the Uddhav Thackeray government’s decision about the Metro car shed project in Aarey, a move that left Mr. Thackeray “extremely angry.”
“All pending projects will be moved ahead, and as quickly as feasible, the public should profit from them. This government will be in charge of it, “said he.
He said it was “worrying” that a pharmacist in Amravati was killed because of a post defending the Prophet Muhammad-related remarks by suspended BJP politician Nupur Sharma.
On June 21, two guys on a motorbike assaulted and murdered Umesh Kolhe, 54, while returning from work. A week before the murder, a similar homicide occurred in Udaipur.
