"Nitish Kumar Will Be Chief Minister Until 2025," says BJP's Sushil Modi

BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi was shocked by “rumors” that his party wanted to “replace” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He said this might have been a factor in the party’s defeat in a recent by-poll.

There are no “ifs and buts” about how long his former boss has the “mandate until 2025.” Modi, who has been Deputy Chief Minister for more than 10 years, said his former boss has that long-term power.

Mr. Modi blamed the opposition but did not name any party in particular for the “baseless speculations” that were meant to cause “political instability.”

During the 2020 assembly elections, “Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar led the NDA,” the Rajya Sabha MP said. “We won the people’s vote.” The tweets came just a few days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state, where he also met Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister.

During the recent by-election in Bochahan, the BJP lost by a massive margin to the RJD. Mr. Modi said that speculation about the possibility of the BJP going for “its own Chief Minister” might have sent the wrong message to the public.

In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP beat Kumar’s JD(U) party for the first time. Even though he was backed for another term in office, speculation has been rife that the saffron party might want to have its own man as Chief Minister in the state where it hasn’t had one.
