Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that preliminary investigation into celebrity tweets in response to posts by some international celebrities has brought to light the names of the BJP IT cell chief and 12 “influencers”.
Addressing his first press conference after recovering from Covid-19, Deshmukh tried to clarify his earlier statement in this regard by saying, “My earlier statement on celebrity tweets was presented in a distorted manner. I never meant to say the investigation was going to be on celebrities. Lata Mangeshkar is divine for us. And all the compatriots respect Sachin Tendulkar. There is no question of your research. What I meant is that the role of BJP’s IT cell will be investigated. And the preliminary investigation has brought to light the names of the BJP IT cell chief and twelve influential people and the matter is being investigated. “
On the controversy over his ministerial colleague Sanjay Rathod in relation to the alleged suicide of aspiring model Pooja Chavan, Deshmukh said: “As Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has also made clear, the investigation will be conducted according to the rules and the government will will tell people the truth on the matter after the investigation. “
When asked why Rathod disappeared, Deshmukh said: “Where he is is a personal matter.”
On former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba’s treatment for Covid-19, Deshmukh said: “Doctors and prison authorities were taking proper care of him.”
On his own health, Deshmukh said: “I was in the hospital for twelve days (for the treatment of Covid) and I will remain in home quarantine for eight days as recommended by the doctors. Now my health is fine. “
