PM Narendra Modi will attend the G7 conference next month

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G7 conference next month, hosted by Germany. The summit will be held in Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps, Germany, from June 26 to 28, 2022.

Remember that during PM Modi’s bilateral visit to Berlin earlier this month, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz officially extended the invitation. The G7 conference will take place in the shadow of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which will dominate the agenda.

India has been considered to attend the summit for the fourth year in a row. PM Modi was asked to participate in the summit in 2019 under the grouping’s French presidency.

PM Modi will visit Germany for the second time in less than two months. The first visit, in early May, saw the Indian Prime Minister and the new German Chancellor meet in person for the first time.

The Green and Sustainable Development Partnership launch were one of the significant results.

Berlin decided to make an advance pledge of 10 billion euros in new and extra development aid until 2030 as part of the “green” relationship.

Both governments have also agreed to collaborate on projects in third countries, two in Africa and one in Latin America.

These initiatives include agribusiness for women in Malawi, an innovative potato seed production project in Cameroon, and a Peruvian rural social security program modelled after India’s MGNREGA.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday and Thursday, India will attend the G7 development ministers meeting in Berlin (May 18th and 19th).

Svenja Schulze, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, is hosting the gathering.

Creating a global coalition on food security will be a necessary consequence of the development ministers’ meeting.

Even as the Russian invasion of Ukraine has influenced the global supply chain and drives up commodity prices, particularly food prices, the launch is critical.

Dammu Ravi, the Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs for Economic Relations, will represent India at the sessions. On Tuesday, he met with Jochen Flasbarth, the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

“Discussions centred on further expanding our collaboration in the sphere of climate action, development partnership, and via the G7,” the Indian mission in Germany stated in a tweet.

India, Indonesia, Senegal, Vietnam, and South Africa are invited to the G7 development ministers conference. This is the first of the G7 meetings that India will participate in under the German chairmanship of the organization.

Infrastructure investments for sustainable development, climate, energy, and development partnerships for climate neutrality, vaccination access, and climate neutrality are among the priorities on the agenda.
