Prophet Comments Row: Two Dead In Jharkhand's Ranchi

During demonstrations in Ranchi over suspended BJP politician Nupur Sharma’s statements against Prophet Muhammad, two persons died, and ten more were wounded.

After demonstrators battled with police yesterday, some sections of the Jharkhand capital were placed under curfew. The demonstrators sought the arrest of Nupur Sharma, a suspended BJP politician whose statements on Prophet Muhammad have sparked outrage.

As the crowd began hurling stones yesterday, police shot into the air and used lathi-charge to subdue them.

An immense crowd gathered on Ranchi’s Main Road to chant anti-Nupur Sharma, and anti-Naveen Jindal chants after the former leader of the Delhi BJP’s media unit was ousted for his statements.

A large force has been deployed in the vicinity to avoid any unforeseen incidents. In response to the statements, several stores in the city stayed closed.

The violence in Jharkhand’s capital occurred on a day when large demonstrations erupted in cities across at least nine states in response to the BJP leader’s statements.

Anshuman Kumar, the city police chief, revealed that two persons died due to gunshot wounds. “There have been eight rioters and four police officers hurt. They’re being cared for at RIMS and other facilities. We’ll identify individuals who are responsible for the violence, interrogate them, and then arrest them, “he said

“The issue has been brought under control.” In the impacted locations, there are restrictions in place, “He said.
