IPL 2021:

Chennai Super Kings finished last at IPL 2020 and they would be desperate to turn things around. The franchise has already said that it is looking to build a team for the future. Former Indian cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir believes Suresh Raina’s return will boost CSK. Also read – IPL Auction Date 2021: When and where will it take place this year?

“Suresh Raina’s return will be a huge boost for CSK because he plays T20 cricket so well and has done a lot of good things for CSK,” Gambhir said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected program. Gambhir also feels that this time CSK would be in a better position as they will be playing in Chepauk where the ball turns and they have a good understanding of conditions and therefore could be looking for a backup for Harbhajan Singh and Dwayne Bravo. “Chepauk is where he’s going to start turning and grabbing. This is how MS plays his cricket for such a long period of time every time he has captained the Chennai Super Kings. So yeah, he could look at someone off the charts because Harbhajan Singh has been released, Shane Watson and probably another SUV or a backup for someone like Dwayne Bravo, “he added.

Gambhir feels CSK will be looking for an all-rounder and a foreign hitter who can replace Shane Watson. He also believes that CSK will not seek a complete renovation.

“There could probably be an all-rounder and more of a foreign hitter, because normally there are two foreign hitters that start for CSK. To be honest, there won’t be too many changes. Most importantly, they should have a smaller team, because this is just an auction for one season. After this season, there will be a bigger auction. Therefore, I do not think that CSK will have a general renewal, “he added.

The auction takes place on February 18 in Chennai.
