Captain Sanju Samson said the team management decided to let Ravichandran Ashwin “retire” in the slog overs, considering how the match was going to go.
As Ashwin went back to the dugout even though he was 28, not out, RR became the first team in IPL history to use the “retired-out” tactic (April 10).
Hetmyer (59 not out off 36 balls) and Ashwin (28 off 23 balls) helped rebuild the RR innings. The pair made 68 for the fifth wicket before Ashwin retired with two overs to go in the innings.

“It’s about being the Rajasthan Royals (Ashwin is now retired). We try new things all the time. Before the season, Samson said, “We talked about it a lot.” SAMSON SAID THAT after RR beat LSG by three runs in an IPL thriller. When some situation comes up, we thought we could use it. A group of people made a choice.
Riyan Parag came to the crease after Ashwin was out for 18.2 overs. “I didn’t know about it” (Ashwin retiring out). He was also tired. It was a good move, as Parag hit a six for us after the match.
This is the first time Kuldeep Sen has played in the Indian Premier League. He took a wicket for 31 and kept RR from scoring 15 runs in the last over to help them win the game.
Samson said he had faith in Sen because he had seen him practise the wide yorkers, so he thought he could do it.
Kuldeep Sen has been working on his wide yorker in the off-season, and he is confident that he can do it now that he has done well and is ready.
A man who saw him in Syed Mushtaq told him that he was good at making wide yorkers. It will depend on how he has bowled them in the first three overs.
Trent Boult (2/30) took two wickets in a spectacular first over, while Yuzvendra Chahal (4/41) took four wickets to become the first player to take 150 wickets in the IPL.
“Boult told me before the first ball, “Sanju, change your plan. He is fun to be around, and his skills are excellent. I will go around the wicket and hit that bowled straight in his legs.”
It’s about Chahal that he said: “Chahal is someone who can get the ball at any time from overs 1-20.” If I can say so, I can tell he’s the best leg-spinner India has seen in the last few years. So, why not use him more at the end?
