Russia is planning to direct attacks by the Ukrainian military to reason an invasion: Pentagon.

Washington: Russia is planning to launch attacks by its Ukrainian forces against the Russian populace in the eastern part of Ukraine to use it as a cover for an invasion of Ukraine, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday.

“We do have information that the Russians are likely to want to fabricate a pretext for an invasion. So one option is the Russian government is planning to stage a fake attack by Ukrainian military or intelligence forces against Russian sovereign territory or Russian speaking people to justify their action, therefore,” Kirby told reporters at a press conference.

The Pentagon believes that Russia will produce some graphic propaganda video. Kirby said it would include corpses and actors who depict grieving people, destroyed sites, and military-related equipment.

He also said that it is part of Russia’s plans to make certain pieces of destroyed equipment appear like it was provided with the help of the West.

A Pentagon press secretary could not offer any evidence to back the accusations.

The situation in Ukraine has gotten worse over the last several months following Russia and the United States, and its allies have accused Russia of preparing for an invasion of its neighbor.

Russia is repeatedly in denial that it has plans to strike any country. However, it has stated that it is entitled to relocate troops within its territory in any way it thinks is appropriate.

In addition, Russia has said that NATO’s plans to expand its eastward expansion and Ukraine are threats to its security.
