“Stop vaccine nationalism; in fact, actively promote internationalism. The hoarding of superfluous doses will frustrate our efforts to achieve collective health security, ”he said, speaking in the open debate on the implementation of resolution 2532 (2020) on the cessation of hostilities in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also stressed that disinformation campaigns that take advantage of the pandemic to advance their nefarious objectives and activities must be stopped.

He cited that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) estimates that more than 60 million people in those areas are at risk.

India is also concerned about the glaring disparity in vaccine accessibility globally and Jaishankar stressed that equity in vaccine access is important to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

This disparity requires cooperation within the framework of COVAX, which is trying to ensure adequate doses of vaccines for the world’s poorest nations, he said.
