Taiwan has reported a massive Chinese air force invasion. 

Taiwan: The Taiwanese government said Taiwan announced the most significant incursion by the Chinese air force within the air defense zone of Taiwan. 

The island’s defense ministry declared Taiwanese fighters were scrambling to scare away 39 aircraft during the latest flare-up in tensions.

Taiwan, the island, which China asserts is its territory, has been complaining for more than one year of the repeated mission by the Chinese air force close to Taiwan, a democratically-governed island typically in the southwest part of the air defense identification zone or ADIZ close to Taiwan’s controlled Pratas Islands.

Taiwan calls China’s constant near military activities “grey zone” warfare, intended to wear down Taiwan’s troops by forcing them to constantly scramble, as well as to test Taiwan’s reaction.

The most recent Chinese mission comprised 34 fighters, four electronic warfare aircraft, and one bomber, the Taiwan ministry announced.

According to an official map provided by the ministry, the aircraft flew over an area that lies to the northeast of Pratas.

According to the ministry, Taiwan provided combat aircraft to warn off Chinese planes, and missile systems were in place to watch them.

It was not immediately clear if there would be a reaction from China that has previously stated that the moves were designed to safeguard China’s sovereignty.

Although it is unknown what could have led China to undertake this massive mission, the U.S. and Japanese naval forces have been conducting drills in the Philippine Sea. This vast area extends from towards the west of Taiwan.

The U.S. Pacific Fleet said that on Sunday, the exercises comprised two strike groups of carriers who are “conducting training to preserve and protect a free and open Indo Pacific.”

China has increased its pressure on Taiwan to recognize the sovereignty claims of Taiwan. Taiwan’s government claims to want peace, but it will protect itself if attacked.

Taiwan has reported the presence of 148 Chinese air force aircraft in the southwest and the southern part of the air defense zone in four days, beginning October. 1.

Taiwan has reported Chinese air force sorties into the airspace almost every day since the beginning of the year. 

However, the number of aircraft that flew in the skies on the Sunday of the month was by far the highest in a single day since the incursions of October.

No shots have been fired, and the Chinese aircraft haven’t been flying over Taiwan’s airspace. 

However, they are in ADIZ larger area. Taiwan monitors and patrols, which allows it to have the time to react to threats.
