Take leadership role in uniting Oppn parties against BJP
RAHUL GANDHI should take the leadership role to unite opposition parties across India to fight the BJP-led government in the Center, DMK chief MK Stalin said on Sunday at a rally organized by his party and its alliance partners in Salem, the local Tamil territory. Nadu’s Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami, and a stronghold of AIADMK.
With the former president of Congress sharing the stage, Stalin said: “Here, I have a kind request for Rahul Gandhi… No, a firm request. When we talk on the phone, sometimes I call him [Rahul] ‘Sir’. Then he would correct me, ask me to call him brother. My brother Rahul, here is my humble and sincere request for you … ”
“India is now being destroyed in the clutches of a fascist government. You have a responsibility to protect India at this time. Be it the assembly or the Lok Sabha elections, it was the united secular front in Tamil Nadu that ensured the collapse of the BJP front. The same is going to be repeated now in this election, ”Stalin said, referring to the April 6 assembly elections in the state.
The head of DMK said that only 37 percent of the people had given the BJP the mandate to form the government. “What does it mean? 63 percent of the people voted for different parties against the BJP front. When we [in Tamil Nadu] ensured the defeat of the BJP with a united secular alliance, it has not happened anywhere else in India. I ask you to take the lead, come forward and lead India, ”said Stalin, who also reminded people that those who vote for the DMK will also vote to make him the prime minister of the state.
Interestingly, during a massive demonstration in Chennai in December 2018, which was attended by many opposition leaders from different states, it was Stalin who first proposed Rahul’s name as a candidate for prime minister for the Lok Sabha elections of 2019.
With just eight days to go until the state elections, Sunday’s rally in Salem was the first in which Rahul and Stalin shared the stage, as the state’s congressional leader’s previous campaigns were at a time when there were disputes between both parties for the conversations to share seats.
While Congress is contesting 25 seats in the alliance, the party leadership expects to win more than 15 of them, unlike in 2016, when Congress had won only eight of the 41 seats it contested in the DMK alliance.
Rahul, who spoke after Stalin, said that the state was “witnessing a large-scale attack on the culture and history of the Tamil language” by the BJP government in the Center.
“Today we wear masks everywhere. When you wear a mask, it is difficult to recognize … If we smiled at someone, they would not know that … This is what you also need to understand about AIADMK ”, said Rahul, using the metaphor of the mask. “This is not the old AIADMK, please don’t be confused. This is an AIADMK with a mask on top … If you remove the mask, you will find that it is not AIADMK, but RSS and BJP are behind the mask. ”
“That old AIADMK is gone… it’s finished. It is now a hollow shell that is controlled by RSS and BJP. And the people of Tamil Nadu have to be careful, they have to understand what is behind their mask, ”said Rahul, accusing Palaniswami of surrendering to the party and falling at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister of the Interior. , Amit Shah, when there was no Tamil I wanted to touch your feet. Rahul said that the “corrupt CM Palaniswami” has to do it because Modi controls the ED, CBI and other central agencies.
