The assailants fled the scene after fatally attacking the two who died en route while being transferred to a hospital, a senior law enforcement official told PTI by phone, citing a preliminary investigation.
A hunt was launched to catch those involved in the crime, the official said, adding that the police have detained some people on suspicion.
Some television channels showed images of Rao lying on the road in a pool of blood and his wife in the car. The Telangana Bar Association condemned the brutal murder of the lawyer couple and demanded that the police detain the culprits immediately.
