The Department of Telecom asked telecom operators to stop using COVID pre-call announcements or caller music.

To spread awareness and inform citizens about the pandemic, the telecom service providers played the pre-call announcements and caller tunes relating to coronavirus.

DoT referenced in a circular dated March 29 the instructions for implementing caller tunes to operators and corona pre-call announcements in a directive.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved the withdrawal of caller tunes with immediate effect.

Accordingly, telecom service providers were asked to remove all corona pre-call announcements made by DoT and any caller tunes.

The government had previously received assurances that the audio clips served their intended purpose and delayed critical calls during emergencies.
