TPF joins BJP

As Tripura’s 60-member assembly is set to go to the polls early next year, the state is seeing a lot of changes in the political parties.

One such alliance, Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha), broke off with the BJP on Sunday, just a few hours after an indigenous rights activist joined the party.

Patal Kanya Jamatia, a tribal rights activist and the Tripura People’s Front (TPF), joined the BJP at a party in Agartala. Biplab Kumar Deb and other senior BJP leaders welcomed new members to the party.

For indigenous rights, the Tripura People’s Front was set up in 2014, and it gives people who live there a voice.

This happened just a few hours ago, and the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha) said there were no plans to work with the BJP. As the disagreements between TIPRA and TPF grew, the alliance broke up. All the candidates backed out.

In Tripura’s Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, TIPRA is the party that runs the show (TTAADC).

“There was a lot of talk about how small TIPRA is today. Of course, the BJP is a big party with many people who support it. If this is the official position of the BJP, I think they should prepare to fight for all of the 60 seats in Tripura’s assembly. “He said this in a video message shared by Purna Chandra Jamatia, the CEO of the TTAADC. Pradyot Kishore Debbarman is the chairman of TIPRA.

He also said, “Afterward, I don’t think there will be an alliance in the future because of what they said. Afterward, we’ll fight for 30 to 35 seats ourselves.”

Corruption was Debbarman’s way of taking a jab at the BJP, so he said that “It’s because of their arrogance that the high and mighty have been brought down to the ground. We may be a small player in our area, but I want to tell you that we are not dishonest. We also won’t settle for less than we want.”

Notably, the TPF began its political activities a few years ago and ran candidates in previous Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections collaborating with the TIPRA.
