Two more bodies recovered from Kinnaur Landslide.

Two more bodies were recovered from the site of the landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Monday, bringing the death toll to 25, a senior official said. Search and rescue operations are underway for those missing in the landslide that occurred last Wednesday.

The state director of disaster management, Sudesh Kumar Mokhtar, said that according to information provided by Bhawanagar SHO, two bodies had been recovered from the rubble in the village of Chaura on national road 5 in Nichar tehsil on Monday.

He said search and rescue operations, which had been suspended Sunday night, resumed again Monday morning. So far, a van and its passengers buried under the debris could not be traced, he said, adding that the vehicle may have collapsed with the debris.

The rescue operation is carried out jointly by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and members of the local police and domestic guards.

On the day of the incident, 10 bodies were recovered and 13 people were rescued. Earlier Wednesday, eight bodies were found in a taxi during the search and rescue operation. Two damaged cars had also been recovered Wednesday, but no one was found in them.

On Thursday, four bodies were found at the site of the landslide, while three were removed on Friday. Subsequently, on Saturday six bodies were recovered from the rubble.

The chief minister, Jai Ram Thakur, had informed the state assembly after visiting the site on Thursday that 16 people were still missing.

After that, 11 bodies have been recovered so far. At least five people are still missing, authorities said.

An HRTC bus, which along with other vehicles, was buried under the rubble, was found in badly damaged condition Thursday.
A truck was also found, which had rolled towards the river bank due to stones falling down the side of a mountain, and the body of the driver was recovered.
