The Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) will meet at 4 pm via video conferencing
to select candidates for the Uttarakhand assembly elections.
On Wednesday, Harish Rawat, a former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, stated that it was not
his decision to bring Harak Singh Rawat back to the party and that the party leadership
must decide.
“I don’t get mad at anyone. The Congress high command must decide whether Harak Singh
Rawat will be inducted into their party.
I will take whatever the Congress party makes a decision. Rawat stated to ANI that he
could not decide on Harak Singh Rawat’s induction into the party.
Harak Singh Rawat was among the 10 Congress MLAs who resigned in 2016 to join the BJP.
He wants to return to Congress with the assembly elections in the state just a month away.
However, Harish Rawat, who heads the party’s campaign committee for the elections, is
opposed to the idea.
Sources claim Harish Rawat was unhappy with Harak Singh Rawat’s re-entry to Congress.
He has informed the party leadership about his views.
According to sources, Harak Singh Rawat shouldn’t be taken seriously since he has a list of
conditions and demands.
Harak Singh Rawat was expelled from the BJP and removed from the Uttarakhand Cabinet
for his “anti-party activities”.
Although he expressed his desire to be a member of Congress, there is still uncertainty
about his re-induction.
On February 14, the Uttarakhand Assembly Election polling will occur in one phase. The
count of votes will be on March 10.
BJP won 57 of the 70 Assembly constituencies in Uttarakhand during the last Assembly
election.
