Victoria Azarenka withdraws from WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto: See the reason!

Victoria Azarenka, a two-time grand slam winner from Belarus, announced on Twitter. Told she would not be competing in the WTA 1000 event in Toronto the following week due to the denial of her visa application.

Due to a restriction on Belarussian players, the 33-year-old ranked 20th in the globe also skipped Wimbledon in June.

Following the invasion of Ukraine, the tennis governing organizations barred Russia and Belarus from participating in international team tournaments.

However, individual players from the two nations are still permitted to participate as neutrals.

“Missing one of my favorite tournaments makes me extremely sad. I like playing in Canada, where I have developed many friends over the years and where there are fantastic supporters “said Azarenka.

The Belarussian also said that later in August, in Cincinnati, she will be competing in the Western & Southern Open.
