Virat Kohli vs Sourav Ganguly: BCCI president reacts to the captaincy row in white ball.
On Friday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly did not speak about the white-ball captaincy disputes following comments made by Virat Kohli about his earlier remarks.
“Let’s not go further. I’m not going to have anything that I can say,” Sourav Ganguly said to journalists here.
If there will be any actions initiated against Virat Kohli following the South Africa tour, Ganguly stated, “I have nothing to say. The issue is with the BCCI, and they’ll handle the matter.”
The day following, Kohli was dismissed from the position of ODI captain; BCCI President Ganguly has told ANI that he’d spokenspoken to Virat about the change in leadership and requested Virat not give away T20I captaincy.
“It’s an agreement which the BCCI and selectors came to together. In reality, the BCCI had asked Virat to stay on as the T20I captain. But evidently, Virat did not accept the request. And then, the selectors didn’t think it was right to have two captains for the two white-ball formats,”
“So it was determined that Virat will continue to be the captain of the Test team, and Rohit will be captain of white-ball. As President, I personally spoke with Virat Kohli, and the selectors’ chairman has also met with him,”
In contrast, Virat Kohli spoke to the media on Wednesday and disagreed with Ganguly, saying that the captain was never asked to quit to take over the T20I captaincy.
The information about the communications that took place in the decision taken was incorrect.
I was contacted about an hour and a half before the meeting for selection on 8th September Test Series,” said Kohli when responding to a query received from ANI.
Virat Kohli’s Indian red-ball team is in Johannesburg, South Africa, to take on Proteas for a three-match test series.
