World’s first case of white fungus reported at Delhi Hospital.

A case of white fungus causing multifocal perforations in the esophagus, small intestine, and large intestine has been reported at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi. This is the first case of white fungus of its kind reported in the world.

On May 13, a 49-year-old woman was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with complaints of severe abdominal pain, constipation, and vomiting. The doctors who treated her performed a CT scan that revealed perforations in the lower end of the esophagus.

Then a team of surgeons performed emergency surgery and repaired perforations. The woman, also a cancer patient, was undergoing chemotherapy some time ago.

Dr. Anil Arora, president of the hospital’s Liver Institute, said: “The white fungus (Candida) that causes multifocal perforations in the esophagus, small intestine, and large intestine in COVID-19 infection has not been reported in the literature to the best of our knowledge. ”

“Cases of black fungi causing holes in the gut due to overuse of steroids were recently reported,” he said.
