8 Lions in Hyderabad zoo find Covid positive.

The Zoo management confirmed that eight Asian lions at the Hyderabad zoo tested positive for COVID-19.

Rakesh Mishra, Advisor Research Institute, says, “Saliva samples from the Asian lions were thoroughly tested and found positive. Since they lived nearby, it must have spread among them.”

“We are now developing a method to analyze your stool samples. This method would be useful in the future as it is impossible to collect saliva samples from wild animals every time,” Mishra later added.

He further said to the media that the virus found in the lion’s body is not a new variant. When we asked him about the lion’s health condition, he told us, “It is a light symptom, and they are eating well,” he said.

Animal researchers are saying that these animals get affected by the maintenance staff. Especially those staff who used to give them meat.

Senior zoo staff said all of the infected lions are under observation and looking healthy.

The official also said they first noticed fever and later lose motion of 3 of them. After that, the zoo officials collected the samples and sent them to the CCMB lab for testing.

The zoo officials are preparing for Covid testing for all other animals in that zoo. “We are arranging Covid 19 test for all the zoo members, and they will take the necessary action as per the reports”, Says the zoo official.
