A 21-year-old student from the Indian state of Karnataka was killed in the Kharkiv shelling as the war between Russia and Ukraine continued for a sixth day today.

Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudar, a student from Chalageri in the district of Haveri, died in the shelling, said Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority Commissioner Manoj Rajan.

Officials in Karnataka say the student came from the Haveri district, where the student went to school. He was from Chalageri.

People say Naveen talked to his family a few days ago and told them over video call that he lived in a bunker and was safe.

The External Affairs Ministry said that the Indian had died in a tweet.

It said that an Indian student was killed in shelling in Kharkiv this morning.

They say they are in touch with the student’s family.

Indian citizens who are still in Kharkiv and other cities where there is conflict should be given “urgent safe passage,” the MEA says.

The Foreign Secretary is meeting with the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to make a case for this.

“Our ambassadors are doing the same things in Russia and Ukraine,” the MEA said.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai talked to the boy’s father. Karnataka is a state in the southern part of India.

“To get Naveen’s body back to India, we will do everything we can. The CM said that the issue is being worked out with people from the foreign ministry, “The Karnataka CMO told us.

A tweet from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi: “Received the sad news that an Indian student named Naveen died in Ukraine. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I repeat this: GOI needs a plan for a safe evacuation. Every second is important.”

It’s a big deal that the situation in Kharkiv is getting worse, say official sources.

The city of Kharkiv is seeing more and more fighting between the Ukrainian troops and the Russian forces.

The government is very concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in that city.

We need to ensure that Indian citizens who live in Kharkiv or other cities in conflict zones can get to India safely.

They said that we’ve already talked to the Russian and Ukrainian embassies about this.
