Delhi chief minister and the Aam Aadmi’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday
(January 18, 2022) will announce the AAP’s top ministerial nominee to run in this year’s
Punjab Assembly polls.
“The identity of the chief ministerial nominee for Punjab Assembly elections will be
announced on the morning of noon.” Kejriwal had told reporters at the event held in Delhi
on Monday.
The AAP is one of the parties that has received more than 22 lakh votes to choose its CM
candidate for the Assembly elections.
On the 13th of January, Kejriwal requested the citizens of Punjab to submit names of their
favorite chief ministerial contenders and created a mobile number to serve the goal.
Then he had said that he wanted to see the state unit leader of the party, Bhagwant Mann’s
name announced as the chief ministerial contender.
Kejriwal also had ruled himself out of the race.
In the early morning of Monday, the AAP chief and leader of the Opposition in Punjab
Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, declared that only his party would go for the Punjab state
Assembly polls the chief ministerial visage.
He claimed that there was no way the different political parties, not even the Congress, the
ruling Congress, have made public who would be their primary ministerial candidate.
So so far, the party has released 112 candidates.
The 117 Punjab Assembly seats have been scheduled for the 20th of February, and
counting is scheduled to begin on March 10.
