Afghanistan vs Taliban LIVE updates: Taliban seizes 3 more provincial capitals.
While the capital of Kabul has not been directly threatened in the advance, the astonishing speed of the offensive raises questions about how long the Afghan government can maintain control of its field.
On Wednesday, the headquarters of the 217th Afghan National Army Corps at Kunduz airport fell into the hands of the Taliban, according to Ghulam Rabani Rabani, a member of the Kunduz provincial council, and lawmaker Shah Khan Sherzad.
The corps is one of seven in the army and its loss represents a major setback. The provincial capital, also called Kunduz, was already among those occupied, and the capture of the base now puts the northeast of the country firmly in the hands of the Taliban.
