Puducherry, February 16: It seems that the problems have nowhere to go other than Congress, as an MLA party submitted its resignation before the Assembly elections in Union territory.

On Tuesday, MLA A Congress John Kumar resigned from the party, citing “discontent with the congressional government” in Union territory. Kumar, who was the MLA of the Kamaraj Nagar constituency, is the fourth congressional lawmaker to resign from the party ahead of Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Puducherry, where Assembly elections will be held in the coming months.

With his resignation, the strength of the ruling Congress in the Union territory has been reduced to 10 in the House of 30 MLA.
On Monday, Puducherry Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, who had previously resigned from the state cabinet, resigned as a member of the territorial Assembly. Last month, PWD state minister A Namassivayam resigned from the state cabinet and also from the Assembly after the ruling Congress suspended him from primary membership for “anti-party activities.”

Meanwhile, Congressional Leader and Wayanad MP Ragul Gandhi is scheduled to launch the Congressional election campaign in Puducherry territory, limited to the polls, on February 17.
During his visit, Gandhi will address fishermen from neighboring Solai Nagar in the Muthialpet Assembly constituency and then interact with students from the Bharatidasan Government College for Women.
The Union Territory, along with neighboring Tamil Nadu, will go to the Assembly polls in April-May later this year. The Congress party will fight at the polls with the parties that make up the secular democratic alliance, including the DMK, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said.
