American Coco Gauff launches the fastest serve at Wimbledon

The fastest serves in the women’s tournament so far were delivered by American Coco Gauff in the second round at Wimbledon on Thursday, clocking in at 122 and 124 mph, respectively.

On Centre Court, the 18-year-old prodigy Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania pushed her opponent into a forehand mistake to end the fifth game of the opening set.

She then stunned the crowd with a 124 mph shot in the second set before winning the match 6-2, 6-3, and advancing to face fellow countrywoman Amanda Anisimova in the third round.

The 18-year-old Roland-Garros finalist is one of the most dangerous servers in the game. Against the Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the previous round, she fired a 121 mph serve.

With 119 mph, Petra Kvitova and Elena Rybakina were the second-fastest servers in the current tournament.

When she made it to the fourth round of the grass-court major at Wimbledon in 2019 at only 15, the 12th-ranked Gauff burst onto the world scene.
