Americans spend more than USD 604 million on Thanksgiving turkeys every year: report

Americans spend more than USD 604 million on Thanksgiving turkeys every year.

With the first week of November low, many Americans are already gearing up for the biggest holiday of the month, Thanksgiving.

These preparations include finding staples for dinner, which for many involve buying a turkey.

Based on data published on the personal finance website WalletHub average, 46 million turkeys are killed for Thanksgiving each year.

This number results in Americans spending more than $ 604 million on this traditional entree at dinner time. The average cost of a 16 pound frozen whole turkey is now $ 18.35.

However, not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving with classic dishes like turkey. According to WalletHub, 65% of Americans would like to have an alternative to turkey on the table. The most sought-after alternatives to turkey include ham, chicken, or roast beef.

In addition, 29% have considered stopping eating meat during the holidays. Some Americans avoid cooking altogether, as 10% now buy takeout from a restaurant or prepare food for the holidays. Here are America’s favorite Thanksgiving dishes:

  1. Turkey
  2. Mashed potatoes
  3. Stuffing or dressing
  4. Bread or rolls
  5. Sweet potatoes or yams
  6. Cranberry sauce

But regardless of what the centerpiece on the table is, it’s not the only expense on the vacation. WalletHub found that, on average, people spend $ 312 during the five-day Thanksgiving period. In 2021, a Thanksgiving dinner for ten people will cost $ 46.20 per person.

And since Thanksgiving is known for its holiday, the calorie budget is on the minds of many, too. Annually, Americans consume 8.1 billion calories each Thanksgiving, and each person consumes between 3,000 and 4,500.

This would take the average man ten hours and two minutes to burn out on tape. Americans also consume about 2.7 drinks on vacation.

Going back to the true meaning behind the annual gratitude celebration, WalletHub also surveyed Americans on why they are grateful. The report found that 84% are grateful for family, 69% for health, 63% for memories, and 63% for friends.

96% of Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving this year on November 25. More information on Thanksgiving can be found on the WalletHub website.
