Amit Shah is likely to preside over the South Zonal Council meeting in Tirupati on November 14.

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah is likely to preside over the South Zonal Council (SZC) meeting, to be held in Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh on November 14, authorities said.

Interior Minister Shah will chair the long-awaited conclave of dignitaries from the southern states that includes the participation of the chief ministers from the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The meeting will also be attended by the Deputy Governors of the Andaman and Nicobar Union Territories, Puducherry, as well as the administrator of Puducherry.

Some senior cabinet ministers may also participate in the one-day meeting that is expected to be held at the Taj Hotel in Tirupati.

Andhra Pradesh is ready to raise the issue of Special Category Status (SCS) at the South Zonal Council (SZC) meeting. In addition to the SCS issue, the State will also raise issues related to the outstanding quotas of the Center and neighboring States.

It has also been decided to raise the issue of bringing the Jurala project on Krishna in neighboring Telangana under the purview of the Krishna River Board of Directors (KRMB) together with a discussion on the proposal for the River Interconnection Center.

Zonal Council meetings are held for better coordination among states and to resolve pending interstate issues.
