Amit Shah Says battle against Maoists will go on
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel attended the wreath-laying ceremony for 14 security personnel who died in the shooting with Maoists in Chhattisgarh on Monday. After the ceremony in Jagdalpur, they both went to the Basaguda in Bijapur, near the scene of the incident.
On Saturday, a fierce battle broke out between the security forces and the Maoists, injuring 31 people. On Sunday, police released information that 22 men had died in the incident, after their bodies were recovered.
Both Shah and Baghel were in Assam until Sunday for the state Assembly elections, returning to Delhi and Raipur respectively later that day. On Monday, they both arrived in Jagdalpur for the wreath ceremony, after which a high command meeting was held at the Jagdalpur circuit house.
After the meeting, Shah, speaking to the media, said: “Officials on the ground have suggested that the pace of the fight against the Naxalites should not be slowed in any way, which shows that the morale of our soldiers is intact. . We are committed to bringing this fight against the riots to an end. ”
Shah, on his first visit to Bijapur, flew to Basaguda, some 250 km from Jagdalpur, to meet with forces personnel, build confidence and take stock of the situation. He was accompanied by Baghel and senior officials from the state police and the CRPF.
Addressing the forces personnel in Basaguda, Baghel said: “The ongoing battle against the Naxalites will be fought with a better strategy.” He also said development works in remote and border areas of Bijapur-Sukma should be completed as a priority.
