An appointed MP / MLA court in West Bengal issued a subpoena to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday to appear personally or through a lawyer before him on February 22 in connection with a defamation case brought in his against by the deputy of the Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee.
The MP / MLA special court judge in Bidhannagar ordered that Shah “must appear in person / by an attorney” at 10 am that day.
The judge ordered that Shah’s assistance, either personally or through an attorney, is necessary to answer a defamation charge under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In a press release, Abhishek Banerjee’s lawyer, Sanjay Basu, claimed that Shah had made certain defamatory statements against TMC’s MP on August 11, 2018 at a BJP rally on Mayo Road in Kolkata.
