An African woman gave birth to nine babies on Tuesday. Her doctor detected seven babies inside her crowded womb after the ultrasound test. But, she is now a mother of nine babies.
The pregnancy of Halima Cisse, 25, has fascinated the West African nation and attracted the attention of its leaders. When doctors said in March that her Cisse needed specialized care, authorities flew her to Morocco, where she gave birth.
“The newborns (five girls and four boys) and the mother are fine,” Mali’s Health Minister Fanta Siby said in a statement.
According to an ultrasounds report, doctors expected Cisse would give birth to seven babies.
The Nonuplets are very rare. Medical complications in multiple deliveries of this type often mean that some babies do not mature properly.
