ANSU calls for 12-hour closure in the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

Itanagar bandh today: The All Nyishi Student Union (ANSU) has convened today (23 November) in Itanagar a 12-hour ‘capital bandh’ to present its two demands. The bandh has been called from 5 am to 5 pm.

The two demands are “Immediate transfer of the current Commissioner (Education), Niharika Rai from the State and the immediate withdrawal of the criminal case against the ANSU Team.”

Meanwhile, the state interior minister, Bamang Felix, has urged the ANSU to withdraw the so-called bandh. He said that the government has already accepted the 14-point demands of the ANSU and therefore the so-called bandh is not justified.

“The education department had submitted an action report, where almost all the issues were resolved, within 40 days of facing the demands of the student union,” said Félix, also an official spokesman for the state government.

He also called on commercial establishments to open their shops on Tuesday and assured that police officers have been deployed to ensure the safety of people. He added that all government offices will function normally and that state transport buses will be positioned to lift and unload employees.
