P Chidambaram, a senior member of the Congress, said on Thursday that Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, had called on the planets to save the economy after losing faith in her abilities and those of her economic experts.

He attacked Ms. Sitharaman after she retweeted pictures from NASA’s new, powerful space telescope on Tuesday.

We are not shocked that the Finance Minister posted images of Jupiter, Pluto, and Uranus on the day when inflation and unemployment printed at 7.8 percent and 7.01 percent, respectively, Mr. Chidambaram said on Twitter.

The former finance minister added, “The FM has summoned the planets to the rescue of the economy after losing up hope in her own talents and the skills of her economic advisors.”

She should first name a new “CEA: Chief Economic Astrologer,” Mr. Chidambaram continued.

Congress criticized Sitharaman on Wednesday for being more concerned with Uranus and Pluto than with guiding the nation’s economy toward recovery.
