Arsenal travel to Liverpool without Martin Odegaard after missing training

Arsenal took another hit ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Liverpool, with target report that Martin Odegaard has not traveled with the rest of the squad for the first leg.

The Gunners have been dealing with a number of injuries lately, particularly in midfield. Odegaard was one of the remaining midfielders available for Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

However, it looks like the Norwegian will miss out on the opportunity at Anfield. Goal Reports who did not participate in training on Thursday. And he hasn’t traveled to Merseyside with the rest of the team.

Unfortunately, Odegaard is not the only player Arsenal will not have. Goal reports that both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Emile Smith Rowe remain on the sidelines.

Odegaard’s injury leaves Arsenal with an even bigger mountain to climb

Liverpool do not have key players for the tie. Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are out on international duty.

But Arsenal are certainly not favourites. And not having Odegaard available makes his task even greater. He is someone who could have played in midfield two. But he has obviously performed superbly in the number 10 role since being signed permanently, with Arteta previously calling him ‘tremendous’ after one display.

And clearly, Tomiyasu and Smith Rowe will also be big misses. Tomiyasu is in some ways Arsenal’s best right-back. Cedric has had problems.

And Smith Rowe is one of the players who can make something happen out of nothing. That is needed against a team like Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta will set his sights on his side to stay in the tie. And with the North London Derby ahead this weekend, he desperately hopes the likes of Odegaard, Smith Rowe and Tomiyasu are set to return imminently.
