Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot meet with top congressional leaders in Delhi.
It emerged that on Wednesday, the congressional high command urged Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot to carry out a long-pending expansion and reorganization of his cabinet and include some of Sachin Pilot loyalists. Both Gehlot and Pilot met with senior congressional leaders in Delhi.
The issue of a cabinet reshuffle, political appointments to various boards and corporations, and the restructuring of the state Congress unit have long been the subject of criticism.
The pilot camp has alleged that Gehlot is delaying the cabinet shakeup, which they believe is the first step towards reconciliation.
Pilot, sources said, met with the AICC secretary-general in charge of the organization, KC Venugopal, in the morning and departed for Rajasthan.
Gehlot met with Venugopal, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the AICC in-charge of Rajasthan Ajay Maken later.
The sources said that the leadership of Congress is interested in seeing the cabinet shakeup go through immediately and that some of Pilot’s supporters are accommodated.
Pilot had met with senior leader Rahul Gandhi last month and discussed the long-overdue expansion. While Maken has made multiple visits to Rajasthan in recent months, the shakeup has yet to take place.
