His closest rival, Bithika Devi from Congress, was able to get just 54,867 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly election, Sushmita Dev from Congress had set aside a challenge from Rajdeep Roy of the BJP.
Dev got 60,978 votes compared to Roy’s 45,127 votes.
Silchar’s constituency is expected to go to the polls in April or May 2021, as part of the 2021 Assam Assembly elections.
