In West Bengal, voting took place on 30 seats, several of them part of the Jangalmahal region, once hit by Naxal, amid tight security and strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines, said an EC official. Although the general election situation was largely peaceful, sporadic incidents of violence were reported from various locations that went to the polls.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s younger brother Soumendu allegedly said he was attacked in Kanthi by TMC supporters. He also alleged that his car was vandalized and his driver was injured in the attack.
Kanthi’s seat also saw voters stage protests outside a voting booth over an alleged malfunction of an electronic voting machine (EVM). The rioters blocked a road in front of a polling station in Majna, claiming that the VVPAT sheet returned results in favor of a particular party, regardless of which team they voted for.
