At another farmers meeting in Hathras, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Vice President Jayant Chaudhary asked why the government is not ready to step back when farmers have been protesting the Center’s new laws.
“The prime minister insulted you in Parliament while laughing. Of the 215 farmers who died, one of them was 25 years old. His family believe he was shot. His mother was crying and you (Modi) are laughing. His ministers are calling the farmers deshdrohi. Modi ji couldn’t identify deshdrohi from deshbhakt, ”Priyanka said.
The secretary general of Congress said the government did not fulfill its promise to settle the sugar cane quotas after coming to power. “This is the same prime minister who did not cancel the 15 billion rupee sugar cane quotas, but bought two planes worth 16 billion rupees.”
Congress is holding a series of these panchayats. Priyanka will address the meetings in Mathura on Saturday and Muzaffarnagar on Sunday.
“Suppose the laws are for the benefit of farmers. Now if farmers say they don’t want it, shouldn’t they accept it? Does (the government) know more than the farmers of this country? Priyanka asked.
The congressional leader said the new laws will allow companies to control the price of crops. “This is a law that has no law against corporations. You can get close to the DM but no one beyond that. This law is made for your rich friends, ”he said. “When Modi ji can visit the US to campaign for Trump, travel to China, Pakistan and many countries, why can’t he talk to the farmers who are protesting just 2-3 km from his residence?” Priyanka asked.
At the farmers meeting in Sadabad in Hathras, Chaudhary said: “We do not want to debate whether the three agricultural laws are intended for the welfare of farmers or not, but the fact is that around 200 of our men have lost their lives so how far while protesting these laws … So why isn’t the Modi government ready to step back? “
