Atmanirbhar Campaign is a National Spirit Says PM Modi
Stating that the Atmanirbhar Abhiyan (campaign on self-reliance) is not only a government policy but also a national spirit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday urged people to learn more about Indian scientists and develop sports commentary in regional languages to Indian sports theme in order to make it so.
“Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan is not just a government policy, it is a national spirit … Today Aatmanirbhar Bharat has become a feeling that grows in the hearts of the common man,” he said on the 74th edition of his monthly radio show. He cited a number of examples of ordinary people participating in extraordinary activities to promote the spirit of self-reliance across the country to drive home his point.
Modi, who broadcast a recorded version of a cricket commentary in Sanskrit during his show at a college tournament in his constituency Varanasi, said the country should promote sports commentary in regional languages. “We need to think about promoting Indian sports commentary in regional languages,” he said. “We should think about promoting it. I urge the Sports Ministry and private institutions to think about it, “he added.
Responding to a listener’s question about what he most regrets as Gujarat’s Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister, Prime Minister Modi said that he often feels bad about not being able to learn Tamil, the “oldest language in the world”. “It is a beautiful language that stands out around the world. Many people have told me about the quality of the literature and poetry written in Tamil, ”he said.
The Prime Minister addressed a number of different topics, including water conservation, the nation’s battle against coronavirus, job creation, and upcoming exams.
Modi began his 34-minute speech calling for water conservation and nature conservation by citing examples from West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where people have taken initiatives for themselves and inspired others. He said the Jal Shakti Ministry is launching a 100-day program – Take the rains where it falls, when it falls – to collect rain.
With the summer season fast approaching, Prime Minister Modi said it was essential that all indigenous people recognize their responsibility towards conserving water. He also announced the Jal Shakti Ministry’s upcoming ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign aimed at collecting rainwater.

He noted that a total of 112 species of birds were sighted in Kaziranga National Park. There were two main reasons behind the abundance of birds in the national park: water conservation and low human interference, he said.

On the occasion of National Science Day, Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the importance of science in building a self-sufficient India. He dedicated the day to the work of the esteemed scientist Dr. CV Raman and his discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’. “Our youth should read a lot about Indian scientists and understand the history of Indian science,” he said.
