Britain’s Dan Evans has advanced to the third round at the Australian Open. Arthur Rinderknech, his opponent, withdrew due to a wrist injury.
Evans (31 years old) was scheduled to face the Frenchman but was given a walkover before.
The 24th seed will take on Felix Auger Aliassime (Canadian ninth seed) or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (Spanish ninth seed).
Heather Watson, a fellow Briton, is now out after she lost 7-6 (7-4 6-4) to Tamara Zidansek from Slovenia.
Last week, the pair played in Adelaide, and Watson, who is currently ranked 94th worldwide, was not happy with the result.
Watson lost in three sets at the WTA event. It was another close match at Melbourne Park.
Briton, 29, lost serve twice against her 24th
was the opponent in the first set. However, they broke back immediately to force the tie-breaker.
Watson took a 2-1 lead after Zidansek had won that. However, Watson couldn’t hold on to the advantage.
Zidansek, a semi-finalist in the French Open, was served with a double fault by the Briton. She won the match, but Watson lost the final set.
