Barcelona Sign Lewandowski For £42.6m

The 33-year-old had one year remaining on his contract with the German champions, but he said in May, “My journey with Bayern is ended.”

As part of Barcelona’s four-match American tour, he joined his new Miami teammates.

“I’ve arrived at last. I’m thrilled to be here at Barca “said Lewandowski.

“The previous few days have been very long, but now that the sale is closed, I can concentrate on a brand-new task and chapter in my life.

“I’ve always aspired to play for elite teams and La Liga.

I’m here to help Barca win as many trophies as possible and return to the top.

After leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2014, Lewandowski joined Bayern on a free transfer with a buyout clause of 500 million euros (£425.9 million).

Last season, he helped Bayern win their 10th consecutive Bundesliga championship with 50 goals in 46 games.

Lewandowski is the club’s second-highest scorer, behind only Gerd Muller, with 344 goals in 374 appearances.

In addition to winning the Champions League in 2019–20, he has won the league in his eight seasons at Bayern.

Lewandowski is Barcelona’s fourth summer acquisition after Brazil winger Raphinha joined from Leeds United in a deal worth up to £55 million, Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie, and Denmark defender Andreas Christensen, who joined on free transfers after their respective contracts with Chelsea and AC Milan expired.

Ousmane Dembele, a French winger, extended his contract with Barcelona this summer.
