Barcelona signs Aubameyang

A 32-year-old Gabon striker made the signing late on Monday night.

Aubameyang hasn’t been with the Gunners since a violation of the disciplinary code in December; however, he scored 92 in 163 matches before the incident.

Barcelona thought the move would be canceled earlier on transfer deadline day even though Aubameyang was on his way back to Spain.

He was also associated with a change from Saudi Arabian side, Al-Nassr.

Former Arsenal captain’s departure could save the Gunners, who purchased the player in 2018 for $ 56m in 2018 from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 around $ 15min salary.

But the boss Mikel Arteta with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as his forwards for the rest of the season.

Aubameyang was removed in the early hours after the Africa Cup of Nations in January due to ongoing health concerns.

The forward did not make it to Gabon’s draw in Ghana after scans found “heart lesions” following an episode of Covid; however, scans later provided him with the all-clear.

The tale of the deal

Spanish soccer journalist Guillem Balague

Aubameyang was granted a private plane to fly the player on a trip to Barcelona in Spain.

The Spanish club had arranged an appointment for his medical because it appeared that the move was set to be made.

It didn’t have anything to do with Ousmane Dembele’s exile from his position at the Nou Camp; however, if the French forward had left, Barca would have been in a place to pay higher wages.

At 6 pm, it appeared that the transfer was unlikely to be completed, and the financial disparities between these two teams were too significant.

The whole story is being reported to us minute-by-minute from Laporta.

It seemed like the transfer wouldn’t occur because the gap between the amount Barca could afford in terms of salaries and the proportion of Aubameyang’s earnings, which Arsenal was willing to pay, was too huge.

Barcelona was owed 2 million euros (PS1.6m) in wages to pay, and Aubameyang was willing to accept any amount.

Then Arsenal agreed to a free transfer. That means that Gabon forward could earn 2 million euros this year – instead of the 9 million euros ($ 7.5m) he was due to receive at Arsenal, but he could get more.
