West Bengal Minister Jakir Hossain was seriously injured after unidentified attackers threw bombs at him at the Nimtita train station in Murshidabad district on Wednesday night, police said.
At least two other people who were with him were also injured in the incident.
Hossain, the Minister of State for Labor, was waiting on platform 2 of the station to catch a train to Kolkata around 10 pm when he was attacked, a senior West Bengal Police officer told PTI.
The Jangipur MLA in Murshidabad district and the other two injured people were taken to Jangipur Subdivisional Hospital, he said.
The assembly election will be held in West Bengal in April-May this year.
