Best HDR Settings for Cyberpunk 2077

Best HDR Settings for Cyberpunk 2077: Cyberpunk 2077 appears stunning in certain respects while being hazy and ambiguous in others.

We’ve previously discussed the blurry problem that many players have observed in a separate post. But here we’ll be going through the optimum Cyberpunk 2077 HDR settings.

I imagine that, like you, the first time I turned the game’s HDR feature on. It seemed to have a somewhat washed-out appearance. It didn’t look more colorful or by what HDR is supposed to achieve until I spent a lot of time experimenting with the HDR settings and my TV’s settings.

While it’s still far from flawless and, to be honest, some people may even think the game looks better on SDR, and it’s a vast improvement over the previous version.

Please be aware that settings like Film Grain, Motion Blur, and Chromatic Aberration should be disabled for the best visual clarity. So before experimenting with HDR, make sure you complete this.

Cyberpunk 2077’s ideal HDR settings

In Cyberpunk 2077, you have three HDR slider choices: Maximum Brightness, Paper White, and Tone-Mapping Midpoint. Unfortunately, they only increase by multiples of 10, so you’ll have to press any buttons to move them.

As noted above, the default settings seem to give the whole aesthetic a washed-out appearance, but you can fix this by changing their values.

Maximum Brightness: This is the brightest the game will ever be while in a colorful setting. Your television will determine the number you choose, but as a general guideline, you should select 1000 for OLED and 1500+ for QLED.

Although they are more significant than the majority of either will produce, it is always preferable to aim higher. Your TV will handle the remainder.

Paper White is the UI’s maximum brightness; therefore, the higher you set it, the more different the UI will be. As you can see below, I chose 600, but if you genuinely enjoy the neon light effect throughout Cyberpunk’s menus, you can increase it to 800.

I believe values above 700 are too intense.

You are setting the tone for your brightness using the tone-mapping midpoint. Your overall brightness will be closer to your TV’s maximum brightness if you put it high. If you set it too low, the game will be dimmer, and your TV won’t ever reach its highest brightness.

Here is what I decided:

Ideal Television Configurations

Now, the fun doesn’t end there since, for some reason, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to object to my regular HDR settings, which work for every game.

Again, the data presented here is based only on my observations while watching a Samsung 4K HDR television (TU8500), which isn’t very bright by HDR standards.

Because of this, not all of the same choices and terminology will be appropriate or universal. Still, you should be able to understand the steps I took to increase the visual clarity and depth of color.

According to what I’ve discovered, for the most incredible look, Cyberpunk 2077 requires a strong contrast between black and white. A warmer than usual color tone, a loss in the typical shadow detail, and a tiny drop in color saturation.

Generally speaking, the goal is to lessen the hue brought on by the abundance of neon lights. Improve the depth of the dark shades that are so common in the gloomy Night City, and double-check your sharpness settings and HDR luminosity.

If you pardon the poor quality of the picture above captured with a phone camera, it should still serve as a decent example of how we accomplished the objectives above.

In contrast, I discovered that other games’ color tones were better when they were standard. But in Cyberpunk 2077, every white color was excessively bright and emitted a solid hue impact.

The HDR luminosity was better at two or less in every previous game. Still, in Cyberpunk 2077, it’s preferable to bring it up since the “Shadow Detail” option is down to intensify the black and increase contrast.

The essential point is that for some reason. Cyberpunk 2077 demands a whole different setup than what is generally universally acceptable for other games.

Your mileage will ultimately depend on how much fine-tuning your TV enables you to do. So try things out, learn from mistakes, and keep modifying until you find something that looks better.
