Bhagwant Mann visits Sidhu Moose Wala's family after the murder

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited Sidhu Moose Wala’s home on Friday, only days after the Punjabi musician was fatally slain.
Mr. Mann arrived at Moosa village to pay his respects to the family. Outside Moose Wala’s home, heavy police protection has been placed.

On May 29, some unidentified attackers shot and killed Moose Wala in Punjab’s Mansa district after the state government reduced his security protection. The assault also wounded his cousin and a friend riding in the vehicle with him.

The state’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration has been chastised for reducing the singer’s protection. That of over 400 other VIPs in a decision that critics say was done to score political points. The action was also publicized on social media by the party.

Some AAP officials have questioned why Moose Wala was not traveling in a bulletproof car and was not accompanied by the two guards still assigned to him.

Mr. Mann’s visit comes a day after meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s leader.

On Friday morning, protestors screaming slogans attempted to prevent the Chief Minister from visiting the Moosa village.

On Thursday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was told that the security cover for 424 VIPs, which had been temporarily reduced, would be restored on June 7.
