Bihar’s latest news: In what comes as the most shocking news, a boyfriend from Bihar died two days after their wedding, which he wanted to postpone since he had a high fever, and his body was quickly cremated. The wedding ceremony has now become a COVID-19 super separator, he realized.
More than 100 people tested positive in the Paliganj subdivision of Patna district, about 55 km from the state capital, in recent days, of more than 350 that have been evaluated in contact tracing, they said. Fifteen of his relatives who attended the wedding tested positive for the infection and apparently infected others.
Reports say the groom was a Gurugram-based software engineer and that he had returned home for his marriage in the last week of May. A few days after the “tilak” ceremony, he began to show symptoms of the disease. On June 15, the date of the wedding, he had a high fever and wanted the ceremony to be postponed, but he gave in at the insistence of family members who forced him to swallow paracetamol tablets and follow the rituals.
On June 17, his condition deteriorated significantly and family members ran to AIIMS, Patna, but he died on the way.
The body was cremated in anger, without the authorities being informed. But someone called the district magistrate and narrated the entire episode. All of the deceased’s close relatives, who attended the ceremony, were evaluated on June 19. Of the 15 were positive, officials said.
The sudden explosion of the dreaded coronavirus has caused panic in the area. Although most of those who tested positive were asymptomatic, they have been admitted to isolation centers in Bihta and Phulwarisharif.
Block Development Officer Chiranjeev Pandey said Meetha Kuan, Khagari Mohalla, and parts of the Paliganj Bazaar have been sealed for complete disinfection.
Patna district is the most affected in Bihar with 699 confirmed cases to date and five victims, according to figures provided by the administration. The number of active cases is 372.
