Biobubble challenges: Ashwin says staying in rooms without fresh air in Australia was exhausting

Fresh from victory over hapless England, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke on Saturday about the struggles of life in a biobubble. Explaining how an individual has to deal with basic needs, Ashwin recalled that sometimes the Indian team had to stay in hotel rooms without fresh air in Australia because the window panes would not open.

The Indian team players have been living in a biological bubble since August last year, when they met in the United Arab Emirates for the 2020 IPL. The tour of Australia and the tour of England to India followed.

“We had to deal with what was presented to us at the time in Australia. Sometimes hotels can be very, very claustrophobic, so you don’t get fresh air either, ”Ashwin said at the post-match virtual press conference.

“And in Australia, there are situations where the window panes didn’t open either. For 14 days, or 20 days or 25 days to be inside, that without even opening the window panes can be quite exhausting, “he added.

“Communication is not easy, especially when you are outdoors. Cricket Australia or whoever it comes and goes and it takes time for everything to get a response. So, it’s like basically, when you’re waiting for certain things, it’s like two or three days of time.

“Many times the team management has stood up and tried to figure out and see what is best for the players in terms of organizing the kind of food that you get, very, very simple things,” said Ashwin, who now He has won eight Man Series Awards in his 10-year career.

“But these are things we must fight for in these situations. Because everything must go through a protocol. Everything must take into account hygiene, safety and all that, “he added.

On the positive side of things, Ashwini said that he has managed to deal with the whole situation.

“Nobody wants to leave the bio-bubble of an Indian team right. You want to play as much as you can.

“The last 8 months have been tough, but the team morale, the union of the team spirit that we built, I have not experienced. Understand a lot of people and even miss the opportunity for other people to understand you.

“Biobubbles are situations that I have somehow managed to enjoy. I never thought I would be able to bond and spend so much time with each of my teammates. “
