During the restriction on physical rallies and roadshows in five poll-bound states due to an
increase in cases of Covid-19, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage events in the
states in a hybrid manner which is likely to be attended by increasing numbers of users on
various social media platforms and informed party sources.
According to sources from the party according to sources within the BJP has formulated a
new plan of action for its campaign in the Assembly elections across five states bearing the
Covid-19 guidelines in mind, which stipulate that small rallies can be broadcast live on
social media platforms that will be attended by approximately one to one lakh voters.
BJP National President JP Nadda, after discussing with several leaders about the plan for
the campaign, decided that all rallies will be conducted in a hybrid manner which means
that top leaders from the party would address small groups and the protests will be
broadcast live in various regions several times and streamed across different websites for
social networking.
In addition, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on January 15 extended the prohibition
on physical rallies and roadshows in five states with polling stations until the 22nd of January.
The commission has also granted concessions to Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Manipur, and
Uttarakhand, seeing Assembly elections from February 10 until March 10.
The day before, on January 8th, the commission, when it announced the dates for the
upcoming assembly elections within five states, halted the rallies until January 15 because
of increasing cases of Covid-19.
Polling Assembly elections within Uttar Pradesh, with 403 constituencies, will be held
throughout the seven phases.
Manipur comprising 60 constituencies, is scheduled to go to the polls between February 27
and 3 March. Punjab comprising 117 districts, will vote on the 20th of February.
The earlier plan was to be held on 14 February. As a result, Uttarakhand, which has 70
constituencies, and Goa, which has 40 constituents, will cast their votes in one phase on
February 14. The count of all assembly seats across each state will be in March.
