The BJP had a huge success in the municipal and district panchayat elections in Gujarat as well as in the Purnigam elections. The main opposition party, the Congress, is virtually wiped out. They have had the worst results in the recent past. Significantly, for the first time, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party has won seats in Gujarat’s municipal and district panchayats. More importantly, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM has opened a book in Godhra, the epicenter of the Gujarat riots.

A few years ago, a total of 31 district panchayats, 61 municipalities, and 231 taluka panchayats were elected in Gujarat. 31 district panchayats have been taken over by BJP.
